Classes
The ARS program offers a variety of classes. Please see the class listing for classes, times and dates. Below are some frequently asked questions about the ARS program. If you have any further questions please contact the ARS staff at (614) 688-3693.
What do our participants have to say about ARS? “Through this program, I feel like I have gotten stronger in mind and body. I have movement back in my right leg and foot that I have not had for 6 years. This water aerobics program has helped lower my blood pressure, and has given me the incentive to exercise and reach my goals."
“Swimming is, without a doubt, my favorite program. The class is very diverse, male and female, all ages, and acuity levels. All I can say is when I get out of the pool, I feel the best I do all week."
“The staff is excellent! They are energetic, enthusiastic, and truly care about us!"
Who teaches the classes? Ohio State University students serve as our instructors, volunteers, and interns in the Adapted Recreational Sports Program. Our experienced staff is there to support, encourage, and assist you as you have fun, build friendships, stretch beyond pre-set boundaries, and remain active in life. Employees, volunteers, and interns study in many exciting career fields. Our staff consists of highly trained and certified members who care about the well-being of others. After a recent survey of the ARS staff, it was reported that the number one reason to work for the ARS Program was the sense of satisfaction derived from the feeling of having a positive impact on the participant’s lives.
What do I need to bring to class? If you choose to participate in our aquatics programs, you should bring a towel, bathing suit, and a change of clothes. If you choose to participate in our conditioning program, you should be dressed comfortably in workout attire. Remember to come dressed appropriately for your program the first regularly scheduled day of class.
Can I bring my attendant to class? You can bring your personal attendant to class with you and he/she can help you participate at no charge to him/her. He/she must, however, be assisting you in the class rather than simply attending the class.
Do you offer one-on-one assistance? The ARS program only offers one-on-one assistance during our scheduled classes. We do not schedule one-on-one appointments outside of our regularly scheduled program. We do assist in transfers into and out of the pool using stairs and pool lifts. We do not, however, assist in changing clothes.
Please contact the program coordinator for more information.
