Learning Outcomes Measurement
Specific learning outcomes result from participation in recreational sports! Measure them and demonstrate to administrators within your institution the impact that you have on students.
To assist you in the measurement of learning outcomes, the Research Institute is currently developing standardized learning outcomes instruments. Instruments will allow you to gain information about the growth of participants in an extremely efficient and simple process.
Soon you will be able to administer a standardized learning outcome instrument in each of these areas:
- Participant Outcomes
- Adapted Recreational Sports Participants - Aquatics Participants - Extramural Participants - Family-Youth Participants - Fitness Participants - Informal Recreation Participants - Instructional Participants - Intramural Participants - Outdoor Adventure Participants - Special Events Participants - Sport Clubs Participants
- Student Staff Outcomes
- General Student Staff - Adapted Recreational Sports Staff - Aquatics Staff - Extramural Staff - Family-Youth Staff - Fitness Staff - Informal Recreation Staff - Instructional Staff - Intramural Staff - Outdoor Adventure Staff - Special Events Staff - Sport Clubs Staff
All instruments use a proxy pretest-posttest design; thus, enabling the measurement of perceived changes in various skills, traits, characteristics and attributes before and after participation or employment in recreational sports. Advantages of the instrument design are efficiency, ease, and cost effectiveness. Specific item development included consideration of the NIRSA General Standards and Council for the Advancement of Standards (CAS) 2007-8 document, engagement of learning outcome professionals such as Dr. Jeanne Steffes, past president of the American College Personnel Association (Steffes, 2007), as well as college recreational sports staff.
