Feature Friday - Brooke Foster

Rec Sports is looking to feature members on campus that embody a healthy lifestyle and a Life in Motion! Take a look at our latest spotlight student, Brooke Foster! Brooke is a junior, studying Sport Industry while also working as a Recreational Sports Ambassador. Read on to learn more about how she lives her life in motion!

Why did you decide to attend The Ohio State University?

Ever since I was little, I dreamed of being a Buckeye. Growing up in the Columbus area, a lot of people like to go further away for school but this has always been the right place for me. From academics to intramurals to work experiences, OSU is second to none.

What are some of your hobbies outside of school and work?

I love country music, going to concerts, watching episodes of The Office, and anything having to do with boxer dogs.

How did you become a Rec Sports Ambassador?

I found the job listing on Buckeye Career Network. It seemed like something I would enjoy, so I applied. It has been a little over a year and a half since I earned the position.

What qualities are necessary for someone to become an RSA?

You have to be approachable, sociable, and knowledgeable about Rec Sports. The main responsibilities of an RSA are engaging with students and sharing information about Rec Sports and all it has to offer.

What are some of your biggest responsibilities as an RSA?

Staying up to date with everything Rec Sports is doing. You want to be able to know the answer and actually help someone when they ask a question. You also must hold yourself accountable; your coworkers are trusting that you will show up to do an event, regardless of how your day is going.

What is the most enjoyable aspect of being an RSA?

I love the look of excitement on a peer's face when you inform them about something Rec Sports offers that they love, but didn't know existed. We are all so blessed to have some of the best recreation centers in the country. People need to take advantage of all they have to offer!

What advice do you have for those who might be interested in becoming RSAs?

Get online and apply! You get to interact with some of the best people on a daily basis and work some really cool events.

How do you live your life in motion? What advice would you give to those who are trying to live a better life in motion?

I live my life in motion by making movement fun. I play intramurals and go to fitness classes. My roommates and I are even participating in a half marathon together in May! Living your life in motion doesn't mean running on the treadmill everyday or lifting weights, it is finding what you enjoy doing and doing it. I would advise those who are trying to live a better life in motion to try new things. I knew the traditional ways of working out, but when I got to OSU, I enrolled in boxing and badminton classes. Both are great ways to live my life in motion that I hadn't expected to enjoy as much as I do! Be open to new things and you will find what is right for you.
