Search

Time: Monday, August 12, 2019 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Location: Ohiopyle, PA

On this trip, First-Year students will bike a section of the Great Allegheny Passage and whitewater raft the Lower Youghiogheny River in beautiful Ohiopyle, PA. This trip will focus on developing leadership skills while connecting with nature, other first-year students and Ohio State. Student leaders will provide guidance on how to set up tents and cook in the backcountry. This trip is appropriate for novice and experienced bicyclists and rafters. At the end of the trip, first year students who have elected to be an OWL (all Wilderness Welcome participants are encouraged to be OWLs*) will move-in early (August 15) and can safely store their residence hall items at the OAC for the duration of the trip. OAC staff will assist in the move-in process on August 15 so a participant’s family only needs to make one trip to campus. This trip is also available for one academic credit hour. More information can be found here.

*Students who elect not to be an OWL or who don’t register by June 30th can: return home on August 15th and move in on the normal move-in day, August 18 or pay Residence Life for early move-in (typically $40/day).

This trip is a frontcountry trip: Trip members will have limited access to running water, bathrooms and other modern amenities. What's included in the Trip Fee? all meals, transportation, trip leader instruction and activity-specific gear (excludes personal clothing and footwear). Students with financial need (Pell eligible for example) may apply for a scholarship to reduce program cost. Please email adventure@osu.edu for details on how to apply. How to register: you will need to create a new RecRegister account. Use your OSU email and ID # if you have it. Once you have created your account, please click the Sign Up and make a payment to reserve your spot. Note this program will sell out and payment is required to hold your spot. Difficulty Level: 1 out of 5 For details & tips for preparing for the trip please reference OAC Physical Challenge Scale
