Creating the Extraordinary Student Experience

Become a Group Fitness Instructor

Rec Sports Group Fitness is looking for passionate, energetic students that are eager to expand their knowledge of fitness and motivate others to reach their fitness goals. All new student fitness instructors must go through our in-house training program, BuckeyeFIT, prior to being hired. See below for more information on how you can join our team!

What is BuckeyeFIT?

This free, year-long training program teaches you the basic principles of exercise science and group fitness instruction. The fall semester focuses on the fundamental knowledge and skills needed to teach group fitness. The following spring semester concentrates on developing your new skill set and applying what you learned through mentoring in live classes. Throughout the training program and your time employed with Rec Sports Group Fitness, you will receive the hands-on instruction, evaluative feedback and peer-to-peer mentoring you need to grow and develop into a fitness professional. For more information about the program, read through our Frequently Asked Questions.

Step One: Attend a BuckeyeFIT Information Meeting

The next BuckeyeFIT program will run Fall 2020 – Spring 2021. In order to be considered for auditions, all students interested in being a part of this program are required to attend one of the BuckeyeFIT Information Meetings listed below. At the info meeting, the Group Fitness Coordinator will discuss the application, audition, training and hiring process in more detail, including specific date/time commitments for the fall semester.

2020-2021 BuckeyeFIT Program: Information Meetings

  • Check back in the spring for dates and times!

Step Two: Pick a Format

The first three weeks of BuckeyeFIT are spent learning the fundamentals of exercise science and group fitness instruction. The duration of the fall semester will then be spent specializing in either cycle, strength, dance, Pilates/barre or yoga class formats. In order to help streamline auditions and training, BuckeyeFIT applicants will be required to choose which format will be their primary focus for training in the fall and mentoring in the spring. However, if hired, opportunities to learn how to teach other formats will be available throughout your employment with our program.

Step Three: Submit Your Application!

Applications for this year’s BuckeyeFIT program are now closed.
