Creating the Extraordinary Student Experience

Become a Personal Trainer

Are you interested in taking your fitness and wellness knowledge to the next level? Do you want to help others reach their fitness goals? Rec Sports offers two training programs to prepare students, members and nonmembers become nationally certified personal trainers.

The BuckeyePT Prep Course is a free in house training program held during the fall semesters designed to prepare full time students who are interested in becoming a personal trainer at Ohio State. This program is lecture based as well as hands on. The students will meet 2-3x per week for the entirety of fall semester, learning material on human anatomy, physiology, program design, etc. Students who finish the course and pass their ACE exam are then eligible for hire at Rec Sports.

*Students who already hold a personal training certification still must complete the BuckeyePT Prep Course, but their process has the potential to be expedited.

The ACE (American Council on Exercise) Prep Course is a lecture based program that is held during the spring semesters and is open to students, members and nonmembers. The class will meet once a week for 12 weeks, reviewing lecture material on human anatomy, physiology, program design, etc. The course prepares participants to take the ACE exam and become a certified personal trainer. There is a cost associated with this program, however participants will receive a discount on all study materials and the final exam.

Traditional ACE exam cost: $399

Ohio State Discounted ACE exam cost: $249

Both semester long programs will prepare participants to take a nationally recognized personal training exam (American Council on Exercise).
