Small Group and Instructional Classes

Small group instructional classes are designed to give a maximum workout in a private group setting. These classes are progressive in nature, therefore regular attendance is highly encouraged. Classes with increased instruction and skill-based elements require participants to pay a nominal registration fee at sign-up. See below for our current offerings.  All Small Group Instructional Classes are open to current Rec Sports Members ONLY. You must be a member or student with a current membership to enroll and participate.  

To enroll in Small Group Instructional Classes: You must log in by clicking the red box and using your Ohio State name.# and associated password to ensure the ability to enroll. The system will only allow current Rec Sports members, including students paying the Rec Sports fee, to enroll in the classes. We strongly encourage you to log into the system in advance of the sign up date to ensure a smooth enrollment. Any issues with logging in should be directed to recsports@osu.edu.  To join the wait list email the Personal Training Coordinator at Alycia Israel.

Fall 2018 Small Group Instructional Classes

Session 2:

Kettlebell Resistance Training Level 1 (Beginner)

Mondays: 5-6 p.m., October 15 – November 19: RPAC B20

Discover how one single kettlebell can help develop your strength and power as well as your cardiovascular endurance. Learn and master training techniques on a weekly basis! The Level 1 course is designed for those who are unfamiliar with Kettlebell training and techniques.

There is a minimum of 5 registrants per class, and space is limited to 12 per class. Attendees will also receive Rec Sports swag at the first class! The class meets in RPAC Multipurpose Room 1 (B20).

Registration for this course is $20 per person, and will open here on Monday October 1, at Noon. You can only sign up online through our online portal.

Kettlebell Resistance Training Level 2 (Advanced)

Mondays and Wednesdays: 7-8 a.m., October 15 – November 19: RPAC B20

Ready to take your Kettlebell training up a notch? The Level 2 course is designed for those who have completed the Rec Sports Level 1 course in the past, or have prior experience in Kettlebell training. This course will incorporate all the main exercises and techniques in a high intensity circuit based class. Get ready to sweat!

There is a minimum of 5 registrants per class, and space is limited to 12 per class. Attendees will also receive Rec Sports swag at the first class! The class meets in RPAC Multipurpose Room 1 (B20).

Intro to Boxing

Tuesdays & Thursdays: 8-9 a.m., October 16 – November 20: RPAC Boxing Area

During this introductory course participants will learn the basics of Western Style boxing techniques and martial arts. The course will be begin with basic technique and progress into more complex boxing practice. Get ready for a great workout utilizing various punch combos and cardio drills! There is a minimum of 5 registrants per class and is limited to 10 members per class.

Gloves will be provided, and all participants will receive free hand wraps at the first class! The class meets in RPAC Boxing Area on the 2nd floor.

Intro to Kickboxing

Tuesdays & Thursdays: 6:30-7:30 a.m., October 16 – November 20: RPAC B20

Intro to Kickboxing will focus on the basic fundamentals of kickboxing. The technique in this class will be based on western style boxing as well as karate. In this small group you will develop kickboxing skills over the course of six weeks. No experience is required, however the skills build upon one another, so it is recommended you attend every session. There is a minimum of 5 registrants per class and is limited to 10 members per class.

Buckeye MetCon

Mondays & Wednesdays: 6:45-7:45 p.m., October 15 – November 19: Jesse Owens North

During the course participants will learn the basic fundamentals and techniques of Olympic Weightlifting. Through this 6 week course participants will practice the clean, snatch, and jerk lifts while incorporating high intensity conditioning drills. This course is designed to not only teach Olympic weightlifting technique but also integrate anaerobic training and conditioning. An intermediate to advanced level of personal strength and aerobic conditioning is recommended for this course.

All participants will receive Rec Sports swag for attending the course! There is a minimum of 5 registrants per class and is limited to 10 members. The class meets at Jesse Owens North.
