Creating the Extraordinary Student Experience

Adventure Trips and Clinics

Adventure Trips

Trips are open to all Ohio State Rec Sports members. Participants must be at least 18 years of age to participate in an adventure trip. Our intention is to provide powerful group building experiences that help participants develop new friendships, learn lifelong wilderness skills, develop leadership qualities, increase interpersonal skills and expand appreciation and concern for the environment.

Trained student or professional staff lead all weekend adventure trips. Prices for these activities include program-specific equipment, transportation, food, camping fees and required permits unless other arrangements are specified in the program description.

  • 5 - representing the highest level of physical exertion for our courses, such as a steep, eight-mile hike in one day with a 35 lb backpack, mountain biking 15 miles on rough terrain or paddling a kayak for up to seven hours

Rec Sport's Outdoor Adventure Center offers specialized adventure clinics throughout the year addressing a specific topic relating to outdoor adventure travel. Lead Climbing

The OAC allows patrons to lead climb, climbing without a top anchor and clipping the rope to fixed points on the wall, during specific hours. To lead climb, you must be lead certified, by taking a lead climbing clinic and successfully passing the lead climbing test, or, in rare occasions, challenging the lead climbing test directly. Check the events calendar for upcoming lead climbing clinics or email to schedule an appointment to get certified. Lead hours can be adjusted to accommodate patrons, so please email to confirm lead hours or request specific times. Lead climbers must also bring their own dynamic rope that is at least 9.8 mm diameter. Helmets are also required when lead climbing and are provided by the OAC.
