About ELI

The Recreational Sports Emerging Leadership Institute (ELI) is a ten week program that will prepare Rec Sport students with the knowledge and skills necessary to begin making impactful and positive change within the Department of Recreational Sports and the Ohio State community as collaborative and exemplary leaders.

The objectives of the program are to enhance each participant’s personal growth and development, group dynamics and community engagement with the goal of making a global impact. Each leadership fellow will articulate their individual values and strengths. They will work cooperatively in diverse and multicultural team settings. They will also learn to understand the importance of social responsibility within one’s community. Leadership Fellows are responsible for a culminating legacy project that will impact and strengthen current partnerships within the Office of Student Life and Ohio State community.

Mission: To redefine student leaders through a holistic peer-to-peer experiential learning program that inspires civic engagement and lifelong agents of change.

 

Apply to be a Fellow

The application to be a Leadership Fellow in the Emerging Leaders Institute (ELI) for the fall 2019 semester is now open! Please fill out the application by Thursday, August 29 at 11:59 p.m. to be considered for the program.

 

Mandatory Time Commitments

Cohort meetings: Every Thursday from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m., 10 weeks, excludes academic calendar breaks

Cluster Meetings: 2 hours per week (scheduled around availability)

Time Commitment: 4 hours per week

Attendance at cohort and cluster meetings are mandatory and vital to your success in the program. Please only apply if you know that you are available on Thursday nights from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.

 

Be prepared to answer the following questions:

  • List any leaderships positions (i.e. on-campus jobs, club involvement, student government positions, etc.) you’ve held on campus and leadership trainings (i.e. workshops, presentations, etc.) you have been through during your time at Ohio State. 
  • Describe why you want to be a fellow in this program and how it would help you grow as a leader. (100 - 300 words)
  • Provide us with a vivid description of a time in your life when you were able to demonstrate your own leadership and how your personal experiences contributed to your ability to lead. (100 - 300 words)
  • Describe a situation where you failed or faced an unexpected setback. How did you handle it, what was the outcome, and how has it impacted your life? (100 - 300 words)
  • Identify a significant event or experience that has had a large impact on your life. Explain how this event or experience has shaped who you are today and what lesson(s) you’ve learned from this experience. (100 - 300 words)

You will also be asked to submit an updated resume to Liz Feldman.167 upon completing your application.
