Aquatics Positions
Beyond offering recreational swimming opportunities, our aquatic facilities are also home to athletic team practices, national competitions and a variety of other aquatic events every year. Student employees are instrumental in making these events and everyday programming happen through a variety of facility and event-related positions.
- Primary Location: RPAC Aquatic Center and McCorkle Pavilion
- Typical Available Hours: 5:30 a.m. – 10 p.m. weekdays during the academic year, and 5:30 a.m. – 7 p.m. in the summer and some break periods. Weekend hours vary depending on events and programming.
- Required Certifications: Some positions require a lifeguard or swim instructor certification, but most certifications can be earned through completion of a sponsored course. Desired certification is American Red Cross. Cross-over training is available for certification from other organizations.

Lifeguard - Hiring for Summer and Autumn 2025
Responsible for the safety and rescue of all patrons in and around the pool. Conduct maintenance inspections and ensure facility cleanliness. Must attend monthly in-service trainings and maintain all certifications.
Academic Year Lifeguards (starting rate $14.00 per hour):

Pool Technician
Ensure overall pool safety, maintenance and cleanliness which may include accurately testing and recording water quality, assuring chemical balance, maintaining aquatic facility equipment and assisting with special events.

Aquatic Event Technician - Hiring for Autumn 2025
Supports aquatic events such as collegiate, club, and age-group swim, dive, water polo, synchronized swimming competitions, as well as general rentals. Assists with elements of event planning such as event setup, administrative support, operation and teardown. Serve as a liaison to participants, coaches and officials and learn working knowledge of timing system and physical setup.

Learn to Swim Instructor - Hiring for Autumn 2025
Responsible for the instruction of American Red Cross Learn to Swim program designed to teach youth and adults swimming skills. Instructors develop safe and appropriate lessons for the instructional program and perform administrative duties such as submitting program paperwork.
