Fitness Special Programs

Try something new and join us for these special event classes, workshops and incentive programs.

Spring 2022 

Buckeye BarBELLES

This 7-week program focuses on the fundamentals of strength training for women to build strength inside and outside the gym! Buckeye BarBELLES includes weekly lectures and small group exercise instruction. The weekly lectures will discuss training topics such as goal-setting, personal accountability and proper exercise program design based on your goals. Lectures will be in-person at the RPAC Monday's from 6-7 p.m. Exercise instruction will be completed in a small group setting and in-person at the RPAC. In these weekly small groups, participants will learn the basics of the squat, bench, deadlift and other foundational exercises with a Certified Personal Trainer.

Lectures will be in-person at the RPAC Monday's from 6-7 p.m. Session options for weekly small group trainings are below:

  • Tuesday 6-7 p.m., February 8 – March 29
  • Wednesday 2-3 p.m., February 9 – March 30
  • Thursday 4-5 p.m., February 10 – March 31
  • Thursday 5-6 p.m. February 10 - March 31
  • Friday 10-11 a.m., February 11 – April 1

Registration for this course is $25 per person and will open here on January 10 at Noon.


Body Building Foundations

During this 6-week course, participants will learn the basic fundamentals and techniques of bodybuilding style training. Participants will practice volume-based upper and lower body workout splits for increased muscle gain and strength. This course is designed to not only teach bodybuilding training techniques, but also provide attendees with appropriate nutrition resources and research. The course will be completed in a small group setting and led by our Certified Personal Trainers. There are four sections to choose from for this offering. All sections are the same course and meet once a week. This class will be catered to all fitness levels!

The class meets at the RPAC Fitness Floor. Session days and times are below:

  • Monday Noon-1 p.m. February 7 – March 28
  • Tuesday 7-8 p.m. February 8 – March 29
  • Wednesday 3-4 p.m. February 9 – March 30
  • Thursday 3-4 p.m. February 10 – March 31

Registration for this course is $20 per person and will open here on January 10 at Noon.


Switch it Up: Equipment Exploration Workshop

Sunday, February 6: 1-3 p.m. (RPAC B30)

Expand your fitness knowledge and familiarize yourself with different fitness equipment in this two-hour interactive workshop. Participants will gain a better understanding of the benefits, body mechanics and proper usage of unique fitness equipment such as BOSU balls, battle ropes, loop bands and more. This workshop will include opportunities to experiment on each piece of equipment, as well as a full-body workout. Regardless of your fitness experience or skill level, the goal of this workshop is to provide you with the knowledge and confidence to take on new challenges in any of our Group Fitness classes or facility spaces!

Love Your Body’s Strength

Tuesday, February 22: 9-10 a.m. (RPAC B30)

Fitness isn't changing what your body looks like, rather doing what makes your body feel good. This class will focus on what your body can do and how you feel, allowing you to embrace you for being you. Open to all fitness levels and all body types. All participants will receive Rec Sports swag!

Yoga for Every Body

Tuesday, February 22: 4:30-5:30 p.m. (RPAC B134)

This 60-minute yoga flow is designed for everybody and every BODY – all shapes, sizes and levels welcome. During this practice, you can discover your flexibility, balance and strength while you celebrate everything your body can do. All you need to bring to class is your authentic self. Join us as we embrace you, your body and everybody. All participants will receive Rec Sports swag!

Ignite Your Fire: Chakra Yoga Workshop

Sunday, March 6: 1-3 p.m. (RPAC B134)

Channel your inner yogi during this two-hour interactive chakra workshop! Join us for an introduction to each of the chakras, or the ancient Indian belief in the seven centers of energy throughout the body. Learn how to balance your own energy through foods, colors and other natural ways. The workshop will include a yoga flow where you will be guided through each unique chakra. Whether you are new to yoga or an experienced practitioner, this workshop will ignite your innermost fire as well as your best self!

Slam Dunk Fitness Challenge

Monday, March 21 – Friday, April 15

As we approach end-of-semester madness and things are getting challenging, what is your motivation to stay active and moving? If you’re driven by working out with friends or roommates, then this team challenge is for you! Create a team of 3-5 friends and receive a point for every Group Fitness class each of you attends. Your team competes through the First Four, Elite Eight, Round of 16 and the National Championship of class participation. Each round earns all of you a fun Rec Sports prize, so will you Slam Dunk the month? All levels welcome. Your team must be registered and agree to our participation guidelines before beginning the challenge.

Empowerment Yoga

Monday, April 11: 10:20-11:20 a.m. (RPAC B30)

Join yoga instructor Kristiana G. for this special Empowerment Yoga class as a part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. This class welcomes all levels of practice, from first-timers to those with a steady practice. This class is supported by mindfulness, humor and self-compassion. Participants are invited to move at their own pace with intention and make a choice about how to implement their poses. This yoga class intends to hold space for participants to be present in the moment, connect with how your body moves in space and recognize how the movements make you feel physically and emotionally. The yoga practice hopes to foster a sense of empowerment that can be transferred off the mat to everyday lives!
