Become an Instructor

BuckeyeFIT

Rec Sports Group Fitness is looking for passionate, energetic students that are eager to expand their knowledge of fitness and motivate others to reach their fitness goals. All new student fitness instructors must go through our in-house training program, BuckeyeFIT, prior to being hired. See below for more information on how you can join our team!

What is BuckeyeFIT?

BuckeyeFIT is our group fitness instructor training program. This free, intensive training program occurs each fall and provides you with the knowledge, skills and practical application necessary to lead group fitness classes. You will learn the basic principles of exercise science and group fitness instruction, as well as specialized skills for teaching one of our core formats: strength, cycle, yoga, Pilates/barre or dance fitness. Throughout the course of your training and employment with Rec Sports, you will receive the hands-on instruction, evaluative feedback and peer-to-peer mentoring you need to grow and develop into a fitness professional and beyond!

Apply to Join Our Team

For the Autumn 2024 semester, our team is seeking applicants interested in teaching yoga, cycle, strength and pilates/barre. Due to need, we do not plan to offer training for dance fitness this semester. Those interested are still encouraged to apply, selecting from one of the other four format groups.

Applications are currently open and will close Monday, August 19.

The training and hiring of new instructors via BuckeyeFIT takes place at the start of each fall semester. All students interested in being a part of BuckeyeFIT must attend an Information Meeting prior to submitting an application. At this meeting, our Group Fitness Team will review the audition, training and hiring process in more detail, including specific date/time commitments for the semester.

Our summer information sessions are now completed. If you were unable to attend an Information Meeting, please contact the Group Fitness Team at fitness@osu.edu
