Instructional Programs

Ready to take your fitness to the next level? Our Instructional Programs offer progressive, skill-based sessions that help you build confidence, improve technique and acheive your fitness goals in a motivating small-group setting. 

 

Functional Fitness Training

Build strength that lasts! Involving functional fitness training in your workout plan can promote longevity in the gym by incorporating exercises that will challenge muscle stability, endurance and strength. Registration opens January 6 at Noon.

Program Details

In this 4-week course, participants will learn exercises that work muscle groups that are typically an afterthought. Each week participants will learn functional upper body, lower body and cardio movements, as well as receive a circuit-based workout incorporating these newly taught exercises. 

  • Mondays 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
  • Wednesdays 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Registration is $10 per person.

 

Buckeye BarBELLES

This 8-week program focuses on the fundamentals of strength training for women to build strength inside and outside the gym! Buckeye BarBELLES includes weekly lectures and small group exercise instruction. Registration opens January 6 at Noon.

Program Details

Buckeye BarBELLES includes two 1-hour sessions per week. One weekly lecture and one small group exercise instruction. The lectures will discuss training topics such as goal-setting, personal accountability and proper exercise program design based on your goals. Lectures will be in-person at the RPAC on Mondays from 6 – 7 p.m. 

Participants will also learn the basics of the squat, bench and deadlift as well as additional exercises with a certified personal trainer. Exercise instruction will be completed in a small group setting and in-person at the RPAC. Small Group options are listed below:

  • Tuesdays 3:30 – 4:30 p.m.
  • Wednesdays 8:30 – 9:30 a.m.
  • Wednesdays 1 – 2 p.m.
  • Thursdays 6 – 7 p.m.
  • Fridays 11 a.m. – Noon
  • Fridays 12:15 – 1:15 p.m. 

Registration is open to Student Members only and is $25 per person. 

 

Barbell Basics Workshop

Ready to take your strength training to the next level? Join our Barbell Basics workshop and learn proper form, technique and exercise selection for safe and effective barbell training. Registration opens February 10 at Noon.

Program Details

Our Barbell Basics workshop is designed to introduce you to the world of barbell training. You'll learn proper lifting techniques for common barbell exercises (squats, deadlifts, bench press and overhead press) and how to create a safe and effective barbell workout routine. Learn the fundamentals of barbell training in our Barbell Basics workshop. Perfect for beginners!

  • Wednesday, March 19: 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m.
  • Wednesday, March 19: 8 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.

Registration is open to Rec Sports Members and is $10 per person.
