Member Rights and Responsibilities

As a valued Student Life Recreational Sports member of the university community, you have the responsibility to follow these policies.

General Policies
  • All members must comply with all state, county and city ordinances.

  • It is expected that all members of Recreational Sports act respectfully of others. Unacceptable or irresponsible behavior may result in dismissal from facilities, and/or suspension of membership privileges. The Student Code of Conduct will be enforced within all Recreational Sports facilities. The Student Code of Conduct can be viewed at studentlife.osu.edu/csc

  • All patrons are expected to use proper conduct. Infliction or threat of bodily or emotional harm, whether done intentionally or with reckless disregard, including threat or action in retaliation for making allegations of misconduct, is prohibited. Use of abusive language and/or sexual misconduct is prohibited.

  • Fighting and rough play are prohibited. Failure to abide by this guideline may result in loss of privileges.

  • Upon request, patrons must show valid identification to any Recreational Sports staff member. Failure to do so may result in removal from the facility.

  • Unauthorized use of video recording devices and photography is prohibited. Filming of materials for personal gain including YouTube channels is not allowed in the recreation facilities. Cell phone photography and video is not permitted in locker rooms or during group fitness classes. To obtain permission for filming/photography, contact recsports@osu.edu. at least a week in advance to secure approval.

  • Members may not use recreational facilities to gain compensation for activities - not limited to coaching, personal training, teaching swim lessons etc. Use of recreational facilities for personal financial gain is prohibited.

  • Personal belongings must be stored in lockers. Day locks are available free of charge for checkout at all indoor facilities. Items may not be left in Day Use lockers overnight. Any items left will be held onto for 1 week; at that time, they will be added to Lost and Found items.

  • Requests to cut locks placed on mistaken Day Use lockers may be denied if items cannot be identified. Patrons must wait until the other individual arrives or at facility close, whichever comes first. If a lock is misidentified and cut, you are responsible to pay for replacement lock.

  • All equipment checked-out from Department of Recreational Sports facilities must be returned at the required check-in time. Equipment returned late or damaged is subject to applicable late or replacement fees.

  • Observing damage and/or misuse being done to a building, its furnishings, or its equipment without notifying Rec Sports staff is viewed as complicity and may result in shared financial or judicial liability.

  • Tampering with or maliciously damaging any software or vending machines is prohibited.

  • In accordance with the university-wide Tobacco Free Policy, tobacco use of any kind is prohibited.

  • In accordance with university, state and federal laws, alcohol and drugs are prohibited at any recreation facility. Failure to abide by this policy is also grounds for immediate cancellation of an event.

  • Consistent with the Ohio Revised Code, gambling in any form is prohibited within the recreational facilities or on university premises.

  • Consistent with the Ohio Revised Code, illegal use/administration/distribution of anabolic steroids is prohibited within all Recreational Sports facilities.

  • Bicycles, skateboarding, hoverboards, roller-skates/blades and scooters are not allowed to be used in Recreational Sports facilities. Bicycles must be parked at designated bike racks prior to entering, skateboards, roller-skates/blades may be stored in available locker during facility visit.

  • Balloons are prohibited in all Recreational Sports facilities.

  • All events or gatherings require a space reservation.

  • Parking is allowed in approved university spaces only based upon Traffic and Transportation Management and CampusParc. Blocking an entrance or exit to a facility is prohibited.

  • Unauthorized usage or transference of university keys or locks is prohibited. Damaged or lost keys or locks will result in a $100 per item service charge.

  • The Department of Recreational Sports may record or edit into video and/or photographs any patron’s name, likeness, voice, image and video images for use in Department publications, promotional materials and website, without compensation and without prior notice.

  • Patrons must comply with decisions made by Recreational Sports staff.

Access Policies
  • Patrons must present proper identification to obtain access to all facilities, which includes:
    • University ID: Buck ID, Wexner Medical Center ID, Rec Sports Membership Card, Rec Sports App
    • Government ID: Driver License, Military ID, Passport

  • Attempting to enter the facility using false identification will result in confiscation and/or suspension of membership privileges.

  • Examples of ID misuse include but are not limited to the following:
    • Attempting to gain access into any Recreational Sports facility with an ID other than your own.
    • Allowing another person to use your ID to gain access.
    • Attempting to sneak someone inside Recreational Sports facilities via points of access not designated as entrance locations.
    • Using someone else’s ID to check out equipment.

  • Patrons are not permitted in restricted or closed areas within Recreational Sports facilities.

  • Unauthorized people in Recreational Sports facilities should be reported to Recreational Sports staff immediately or Ohio State University Police Department 614-292-2121. Any time you believe a crime is about to be committed or has been committed, immediately call University Police and then report the incident to Recreational Sports staff.

  • Membership may be revoked for individuals with prior criminal convictions.

  • Members demonstrating signs of intoxication or impairment due to illicit drug use will be denied access to recreation facilities and programs.

  • Only service animals are permitted in Recreational Sports facilities. Individuals are required to clean up after their animals at all facilities. For questions regarding service animals, please reference the University Policy on Assistance Animals.
Minor Policies
  • In accordance with the minor policy at The Ohio State University, any member or participant in activities under age 18 held within a facility of the Department must have a parent/guardian present at all times. Failure to do so may result in suspension or termination of the parent/guardian membership or referral of the matter to the Office of Student Life Student Conduct or The Ohio State University Police Division, where appropriate.

  • Children less than 14 years of age must be accompanied by parent/guardian at all times in all facilities. Accompanying your child is defined as being in the same activity area and in constant supervision.

  • You must be 14 years or older to utilize the following within Recreational Sports Facilities: 
    • Free weights
    • Selectorized equipment
    • Cardio equipment
    • Any additional fitness equipment
    • Sauna and spa
    • Group fitness classes
    • Personal Training Services
    • Belay at the Outdoor Adventure Center (OAC)

  • Children ages 10 and under or individuals with disabilities can be assisted by a family member in facility designated for opposite sex. This policy ensures the privacy of others. Please use our private changing rooms.

  • Ages 5 and under must always have a parent or guardian with them in the water. For children over age 5, lifeguards may require a parent or guardian be in the water if child is not a strong swimmer.
Family Hour Policies
  • Annual or semester membership holders can bring one spouse/partner and legal dependents under 18 for no additional charge during family hours.

  • Spouse/partner and dependents must be added to the Rec Sports member’s account prior to accessing facility during Family Hours. In doing so, the spouse/partner and dependents agree to all policies in the Rec Sports Rights and Responsibilities Agreement and the Rec Sports member shares the responsibility for their behavior.  

  • Failure to comply with Rec Sports policies may result in revocation of the guest and members’ privileges, including restricted access and/or disciplinary action.
Guest Pass Policies

Personal affiliation with The Ohio State University is required in order to purchase any level of membership or guest pass. Affiliation is defined as being directly connected to the university as one of the following: currently enrolled student, currently employed Faculty/Staff or Medical Center, Retiree or Alumni of Ohio State.

  • All non-University affiliates must purchase a guest pass to access Rec Sports Facilities.
    • Guests must be sponsored by a current Rec Sports member. Sponsors cannot be solicited, and both the Guest and Sponsor must provide a valid photo ID onsite at time of purchase.
    • Each Rec Sports member is able to sponsor 2 guests per day.
    • Guests must enter and exit the facilities with their sponsoring member.

  • By signing the Facility Access Waiver, guests agree to all policies in the Rec Sports Rights and Responsibilities Agreement. The sponsoring member shares the responsibility for the guests' behavior.

  • Guests must present proper identification to obtain access to all facilities, which includes:
    • BuckID, Rec Sports Membership Card, Rec Sports App
    • Government ID, Military ID, Passport

  • Guests are able to check out equipment, including day-use locks.

  • Guest pass holders may participate in fitness classes at no additional charge; guests do not need to register in advance but can walk in based on availability.

  • All guest passes are non-transferable and expire at facility closing on the day of purchase.

  • Guests passes allow entry into any facility for as many times as desired during day of purchase.

  • No refunds are given for guest passes.

  • Failure to comply with Guest Pass Policies may result in revocation of the guest and members’ privileges, including restricted access and/or disciplinary action.
Explulsion and/or Removal

If an individual is asked to leave a recreational facility for violation of any policy, the Rec Sports staff member has the authority to cancel an event and ask the individual or the individual’s group to leave the premises. If the individual or the group does not vacate the facility, University Police will be contacted and access privileges may be revoked. 


Open Recreation Policies

Open Recreation is defined as a formal program scheduled in activity spaces that is to be used by our members on a drop-in basis.

  • Use will be on a first come, first serve basis that is also inclusive of other drop-in participants. 

  • A single person or group of people cannot monopolize the designated open recreation space that would prohibit other drop-in users from participating.

  • No formal coaching/instruction or structured competition is permitted during designated open recreation times.

  • Use of any facility for personal gain, including but not limited to formal coaching, instruction or training is prohibited. 

  • Providing a service that is currently offered by the Department of Recreational Sports is strictly prohibited. 

  • Utilizing spaces for activities not approved by the Department of Recreational Sports is strictly prohibited. 
Footwear, Apparel and Personal Items
  • Clothing or shoes suspected of damaging equipment or floors, grass or turf are prohibited.

  • Proper footwear is required in all activity areas. Proper footwear is defined as, activity specific or closed-toe athletic footwear.

  • Shoes are required in all public areas of all indoor facilities, except for locker rooms, matted multipurpose rooms, boxing area and aquatic areas.

  • Appropriate articles of clothing must be worn at all times throughout non-aquatic Recreational Sports facilities.
    • Tops must completely cover the pectoral region
    • Sheer (see through) tops or bottoms are not permitted
    • Swimwear attire must be worn in the pools (see aquatic guidelines for details)

  • Recreational Sports is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Personal items not being worn must be kept in day lockers or locker rooms. Bags and other personal items will not be allowed on fitness floors or gym floor spaces. Day-use locks are available for free checkout at each facility.

  • Headphones must be worn when using portable electronic devices. Bluetooth speakers are not permitted.
Artificial Turf Field Policies
  • Proper sport-specific safety equipment and clothing are required at all times.

  • The following are prohibited on the turf fields:
    • Metal baseball-type cleats and metal-tipped molded cleats are prohibited.
    • Tobacco, gum and food.
    • Any and all items that are suspect to stain turf surface. Including but not limited to paint, tape and wood-based furniture or equipment.
    • Tackle football

  • At the completion of their use, individuals/groups are responsible for returning team benches to the condition in which they found them. All trash and personal items must be removed.

  • Individuals and/or groups are responsible for removing all sport specific equipment (goals, nets, pitching machines, etc.) and returning them to their respective storage space at the completion of their activity time.

  • Batting of Balls: Batting practice is only permitted inside the batting cages.

  • Batting Cages
    • Helmets: Helmets must be worn at all times inside batting cages. Feeders, pitchers and hitters are all required to wear helmets.
    • Equipment: All equipment should meet safety requirements of the respective governing body. Proper bats, helmets, balls, etc. must be used at all times.
    • Screens: Protective screens must be used at all times when pitching, hitting, etc. is taking place inside the batting cages.

  • Pitching Machines
    • Club Use: Pitching machines are only to be used by registered sport clubs.
    • Balls: Only yellow dimpled cage balls ( jug balls) should be used when using the pitching machines.
    • Locations of use-Pitching machines are only to be used in batting cages and for hitting purposes. The use of machines for infield/outfield practice or other uses is not permitted.

  • Failure to abide by these guidelines will result in one strike being assessed to an individual(s) and/or organization(s) record.
Fitness Area/Multipurpose Room Policies
  • The use of chalk/liquid chalk is prohibited.

  • Any overhead lifts must be guided down with the participant’s hands remaining on the bar. Hands must remain on the bar until the weights and bar are no longer in motion.

  • Collars/clips must always be used with overhead lifts.

  • Dropping weights is prohibited. Please complete exercises by placing weights on the floor and not dropping them.

  • All weights must be returned to their proper racks after completion of a set.

  • The use of spotters is strongly recommended.

  • All cardio and fitness equipment with upholstery must be wiped down after each use. Disinfectant and towels have been provided for your convenience. Please spray the towel and not the machine because spray may cause damage to equipment. Return them to their proper location after cleaning equipment.

  • Only authorized personnel may repair equipment. Members are responsible for reporting damages or necessary repairs to the Recreational Sports staff. Unauthorized alteration or adjustment of equipment is prohibited.

  • Fitness equipment cannot be removed from the fitness area. Doing so may cause damage to the hardwood floor, tile or turf.

  • Water is allowed in a sealed container; all other food and drinks are prohibited.

  • Personal items not worn or being used should be kept in designated areas.

  • Spitting is prohibited.

  • Dumbbells, bars and free weights prohibited in multipurpose rooms unless being used in a department sponsored activity.
Wood Floor/Courts Policies
  • Recreational Sports staff will be responsible for setting up and taking down volleyball, pickleball and badminton equipment. Only authorized personnel will be permitted to access this equipment.

  • Recreational Sports staff will be responsible for raising and/or lowering basketball backboards. Members may request this of any Recreational Sports staff member.

  • Dunking is permitted; however, excessive hanging on rims or nets is prohibited.

  • Water is allowed in a sealed container; all other food and drinks are prohibited.

  • Dumbbells, bars and free weights prohibited on wood floors or courts.
Outdoor Adventure Center Policies

The Outdoor Adventure Center (OAC) is open to Rec Sports members or sponsored guests who complete the necessary waivers and first-time climber facility orientation. All climbers must recognize climbing involves inherent risk and complete the OAC Climbing Center Release Waiver.

CLIMBING EQUIPMENT

  • Participants are provided with a harness and climbing shoes at no charge.

  • Helmets are not required, but strongly recommended, and can be provided at no charge.

  • If a patron successfully passes the OAC Top Rope Belay Test, the OAC will also supply belay devices (ATC or GriGri) free of charge.

  • Patrons may use their own harness, shoes and belay device at their own risk.

  • Personal harnesses must have leg loops, be donned according to manufacturer's directions, have no frayed or broken stitching and cannot be homemade.

  • OAC Staff may examine personal equipment for obvious damage, such as rips or cracks, but staff does not certify personal equipment or “clear as safe”.

FOOTWEAR AND CLOTHING

  • Climbers must wear provided or personal climbing shoes. Barefoot climbing is not allowed.

  • Sneakers or light hiking boots are appropriate footwear to use between climbs.

  • Climbers should wear comfortable, athletic clothing that allows for a free range of motion while climbing.

  • Climbers must remove jewelry and objects from pockets before leaving the ground.

TOP ROPE BELAY AND LEAD CLIMBING

  • Climber must be 14 years or older to take the Top Rope Belay Test and 18 years or older or an enrolled Ohio State student to take the Lead Climbing/Belaying test.

  • Patrons may only test once per day and cannot test the same day they practice with staff.

  • Helmets are required for lead climbing and lead belaying, and lead climbers must bring their own rope.

  • Lead climbing is permitted at the discretion of the manager-on-duty, depending on occupancy levels.

  • OAC Belay Tags expire every year on July 31.
Sauna Area Policies
  • Use of the sauna is restricted to those ages 14 and older.

  • Pregnant women, elderly persons and those suffering from heart disease, diabetes or high or low blood pressure should not use the sauna without prior medical consultation and permission of their doctor.

  • Do not use the sauna while under the influence of alcohol, tranquilizers or other drugs that can cause drowsiness or that raise or lower your blood pressure.

  • Observe reasonable time limits (10-15 minutes), then leave the sauna and cool down.

  • Personal music devices are allowed with the use of headphones.

  • Please use quiet voices and keep talking to a minimum.

  • Exercise activities are prohibited.

  • Only water is allowed; all other food and drinks are prohibited.

  • Use of a towel when sitting on the bench is recommended.

  • This is an electric heat sauna. Do not add water! Water will cause damage and can result in electrocution.

  • Reduce the risk of fire. Do not place combustible material on the heater.

  • Tampering with heating elements and sensors is prohibited.
Aquatic Area Policies

GENERAL GUIDELINES

  • No one may enter the Aquatic Center without an aquatic staff member present.

  • Each activity must have a responsible supervisor immediately on deck.

  • Patrons must be prepared to present proper Ohio State identification. Guests must be daily pass holders or a member of rental group with scheduled pool time.

  • Lap swimmers may be required to circle swim when lane use exceeds two patrons.

  • The use of radios and digital audio is restricted to private listening (headphones).

  • Food, beverages, gum and tobacco products are prohibited.

  • An area may be closed or have restricted use due to competitive events, special events or rentals.

  • Personal items are to be stored safely in the locker room. Do not ask lifeguards to keep your personal items or valuables.

HEALTH REMINDERS

  • Admission to a pool or spa will be refused to anyone appearing to have a contagious or infectious condition, such as a cold, athlete’s foot, ring worm, boils and other skin infections.

  • No band-aids or casts may be worn into the pools.

  • Spitting, blowing the nose and urinating in the pools is prohibited.

  • Do not swallow pool water and avoid getting water in your mouth.

  • Do not swim when you have diarrhea. This is especially important for individuals in diapers. You can spread germs in the water and make others sick.

  • Take a shower before swimming and wash your hands after using the toilet or changing diapers. Germs on your body end up in the water.

  • Individuals not in control of bodily functions must wear a swim diaper covered by plastic pants or a swimsuit.

ATTIRE

  • Only clean, appropriate attire designed for swimming is permitted. Appropriate swimwear covers the buttocks, genitals, pubic region and breasts of those who have them. Street clothes, sports bras, underwear/compression shorts, thongs and see-through swimwear are prohibited.

  • A well-fitting t-shirt and/or clean aqua socks may be worn into the pool.

  • Caution should be taken by those wearing contact lenses and it is advised to remove them before swimming.

  • Eyeglasses worn in the water should be worn with a safety strap.

SAFETY REMINDERS

  • Long whistle blasts may signal an emergency. Exit the pool immediately and look to the lifeguard for further instruction.

  • Do not converse with or distract lifeguards while they are actively engaged in duties.

  • Patrons under the influence of alcohol or other drugs that alter awareness are restricted from the building.

  • You may be asked by a lifeguard to show an ability to swim before using a pool or pool equipment.

  • Glass is prohibited in the Aquatic Center.

  • Headfirst entries are restricted to areas with a minimum water depth of seven feet. Diving is not permitted anywhere in the Recreation Natatorium.

  • Do not swim under the bulkhead or walk on its surfaces.

  • Do not hang on the safety ropes, lane lines or basketball rim.

  • Horseplay is not tolerated. Running, pushing, dunking, water fighting, chicken fights, etc. are dangerous and are prohibited.

  • Hyperventilation or the holding of one’s breath underwater for an extended period of time can be extremely dangerous and is therefore prohibited.

  • U.S. Coast Guard approved personal flotation devices are permitted under the direct supervision of an adult age 18 years or older.

  • Use of water toys is restricted to those provided by the university.

  • All training and fitness equipment is to be used in the manner for which it was designed.

  • Use of starting platforms is restricted to organized competitive practice or competition and in direct supervision of a coach. 

DIVING AREA POLICIES (DURING RECREATIONAL USE)

  • Swimming in the diving well is prohibited when the diving boards or platforms are in use.

  • Use of the diving platforms is restricted to competent divers in the supervision of certified competitive diving coaches.

  • Use of the sparger system is restricted to organized diving practice periods supervised by approved coaches.

  • Do not wear goggles, earplugs, or glasses while diving.

  • When diving springboards are used for recreational use:
    • Use is restricted to competent unassisted swimmers at least six years of age.
    • All jumps and dives are to be in a forward direction from a standing position.
    • No back dives, handstands, cartwheels, or seat drops are permitted.
    • One person on the diving board or its ladder at a time.
    • Do not jump or dive until the diver before you reaches the ladder.
    • One bounce per dive or jump.
    • Dive or jump straight ahead.
    • Swim directly to the nearest ladder and exit the pool immediately.

  • Moving a springboard fulcrum increases spring but decreases your control. The fulcrum is not to be moved from the #1 position (fully forward) during recreational diving.

  • Diving or jumping deemed unsafe, in the judgement of the lifeguard, will be prohibited.

SPA AREA POLICIES

  • Observe posted spa capacities.

  • Use of the spa is restricted to those ages 14 and older.

  • Maximum safe water temperature for use of a spa is 104 degrees F (40 C).

  • Pregnant women, elderly persons and those suffering from heart disease, diabetes or high or low blood pressure should not use the spas without prior medical consultation and the permission of their doctor.

  • Swimming underwater in the spa is unsafe and is not permitted.

  • Do not use spa while under the influence of alcohol, tranquilizers or drugs that can cause drowsiness or that lowers your blood pressure.

  • Observe reasonable time limits (10-15 minutes), then leave the water and cool down.
Aqautic Family Policies

 PARENT SUPERVISION REQUIRED

  • Ages 5 and under: must always have a parent or guardian with them in the water

  • Ages 6 – 13: must have a parent or guardian poolside directly supervising their activities

  • Ages 14 – 17: must have a parent or guardian with them in the building

  • Swimming Ability: if child age 6 or older is a weaker swimmer, lifeguard may require parent or guardian to be in the water  

GENERAL SAFETY REMINDERS

  • Walk on the pool deck.

  • NO DIVING or belly flops. Always enter the water feet first.

  • No climbing the vortex walls. Current is strong and weaker swimmers should take caution.

  • The slide is to be used by one person at a time (though parents are permitted to hold infants).

  • Users of the slide must descend feet-first in a seated position.

  • No swinging from waterfall ropes.

  • Ages 13 and under are not permitted in the hot tub.

HEALTH REMINDERS

  • Wash your child’s body, especially the rear end, with soap and water before swimming. Germs on your body end up in the water.

  • Use the toilet facilities before arriving at the pool and take frequent bathroom breaks.

  • Children not toilet trained must wear a swim diaper covered by plastic pants or a swimsuit.

  • Check diapers often. Changing diapers and clothes on the pool deck is not permitted.

TOYS AND FLOTATION DEVICES

  • Toys are not safety flotation devices. They require direct supervision by an adult.

  • Inflatable toys, including water wings and other flotation devices, are not permitted.

  • Coast Guard approved lifejackets and puddle jumpers may be used. Sizes are based on weight limits marked inside the jacket. Ask staff if you need help with a proper fit.

Refund Policies
  • Any refund request must be formally made and is reviewed prior to any determination of funds being granted.  The refund form can be obtained by emailing recsports@osu.edu

  • Beverage and Equipment Sales are final.

  • Guest passes are non-refundable.

  • Inquiries about refunds for specific programs can be directed to the area.

  • Refunds that have been granted will only be processed no longer than 90 days after first communication.

  • Any cancellations outside of the semester of purchase will not be refunded.
Membership Cancellation Policies
  • A formal cancellation request must be completed and confirmed by the business office prior to the last business day of the month in order to avoid charges for the following month. The cancellation request form can be obtained by emailing recsports@osu.edu.

  • There is a $40 cancellation fee for early termination of a membership.  Memberships are only assessed the cancellation fee during the first year of membership.

  • Rec Sports charges a $30 non-refundable activation fee for every membership charged via monthly payroll deduction or recurring credit card payment.  The fee covers internal fees associated with processing the membership and establishing the payroll deduction or recurring payments, as well as management and auditing expenses.

  • The activation fee will be charged for any membership that is reactivated for previously cancelled memberships.

  • Members whose Saved Credit Card declines more than two times will be prohibited from using a Saved Credit Card as form of payment via recurring monthly billing; members who choose to continue will need to purchase a membership each term.

Emergency and Safety Procedures

Each Recreational Sports facility has emergency procedures. During an evacuation, members must cooperate fully with staff and follow these procedures. All violations of these regulations are investigated by University Police.

FIRE PREVENTION AND FIRE ALARMS
  • Pulling a fire alarm, tampering with the smoke detector system, damaging emergency or safety equipment or false reporting of an emergency to the police or fire department is prohibited and is punishable under the Ohio Revised Code. University judicial action may also result.

  • Passing through any door where security alarms have been set is prohibited except during emergency evacuations. Unauthorized propping open of any door is prohibited.

  • All patrons must leave recreation areas immediately when the fire alarm sounds.

  • A designated university official may conduct a search of any part of the recreational facilities in accordance with law and university procedures.

  • Interference with and/or non-adherence to emergency evacuation procedure or drills is prohibited under Ohio Revised Code 2917.12 and Ohio Fire Code FM 106.4.

FIREARMS AND WEAPONS

  • Concealed weapons are prohibited on campus except by a licensed person in a locked vehicle or by law enforcement officers. University Police and codes of conduct prohibit the possession of weapons.

  • Participants in certain activities may be granted permission to use appropriate weapons (nun chucks, swords, etc.) as part of a recreational sport with prior written application and approval from the Scheduling Office.

  • The use and/or possession of fireworks or explosive devices of any type are not permitted in Recreational Sports facilities and are prohibited under the Ohio Revised Code.

  • Members who witness possession, use or storage of firearms, weapons, or explosives in the facilities should report this information to a staff member.

INCLEMENT WEATHER AND TORNADOES

Tornado Warning – defined as, a tornado has been sighted or has appeared on radar in Franklin County. Indicated by, the sounding of emergency sirens for 3 minutes followed by 7 minutes of silence.

  • When the alarm is sounded, all members and patrons will be directed to take shelter immediately in a designated weather safety zone. Shelters for each location are:
    • ARC: The primary shelter area is the ARC locker rooms. Secondary shelter locations are the ARC break room and OAC equipment storage.
    • RPAC: The primary shelter area is in the main locker room. Overflow shelter areas include the bathrooms and stairwell across from the Sport Shop and the hallway near the golf hitting stations.
    • Esports Arena: The arena is located in Lincoln Tower. Users should take cover to the lowest floor or hallway and bathroom areas away from windows and glass.
    • Outdoor Fields: There is no safe shelter outdoors. In case of tornado warning, members should evacuate to the following locations:
      • LTP/WFH: RPAC or Lincoln Tower Building
      • Coffey Road Recreation Complex: Kottman Hall
      • Fred Beekman Park: Pressey Hall
    • NRC: Bathrooms, laundry area and garage area. Stairwell is a secondary location.
    • JORC: There is no safe shelter area at the Jesse Owens Recreation Centers. In case of a tornado warning, members should evacuate to the following locations:
      • Jesse Owens South: Morrison Tower, Siebert Hall or 11th Avenue parking garage, lowest level
      • Jesse Owens North: Archer House/Drackett Tower basement
